Keith To MACDUFF 132KV Upgrade Now Energised

Almost two months ahead of schedule and over £3m under budget, the Keith MacDuff 132kV circuit upgrade has now been energised. The line now has 180MVA capacity from 90MVA, improved isolation points at the 33kV wind farm connection points and a double circuit serving the town. The team also took the opportunity to replace fault-prone FMJL current transformers and S10 circuit breakers for newer models with lower SF6 gas leakage. New transformers and a 33kv switchboard were installed at MacDuff to replace the old 1950s open terminal outdoor 33kV equipment. Our colleagues in SSEUS undertook the trenching of the new 33kV double circuit using a cable plough.
